If you’ve been past the garage recently, you will probably have noticed we’re having some work done! Most of our customers are locals so we wanted to keep you in the loop about the work we are having done and why we are doing it.
The main part of the garage dates from 1921 when the site was first developed as a car garage. The building itself was already secondhand back then – it had originally been used at the prisoner of war camp in Skipton and was bought by Angus (Skipton) Limited to form the workshop.
Peter Watson (Skipton) Ltd bought Otley Road garage from Angus’ in 1985 and over the years we’ve updated and altered the site to fit our growing business. In 2015, we added a new MOT and wheel alignment lane at the back of the existing building so we could offer MOT's for vans and motor homes as well as cars. In 2016, we renovated the façade of the garage, repairing the plasterwork and maintaining the character of the building that has stood on the site for nearly a century. In 2017, we are carrying out our biggest project to date: replacing the main workshop. We decided it was time to update as the roof needed replacing and the existing concrete floor was in poor condition.
The work is going on over the top of the existing building to ensure we can continue to provide our customers with the service they have come to expect. However, you will notice some temporary changes – for now the service reception is located upstairs above the showroom; the yard might be a bit busier than usual and parking maybe a bit limited at times. We hope that work will be completed in the Autumn and look forward to showing you our new, modern workshop building. In the meantime, checkout the time lapse video (excuse the terrible Yorkshire weather) we took of the roof structure being put in place….
